Community Outreach Program
In 2018/19, UStARFC are committed to expanding its volunteering and outreach programme. Locally, we shall split our effort in two ways different ways. We shall continue to offer coaching and refereeing assistance to our friends at Madras RFC, who have a thriving minis section. The club have an incredibly strong relationship with Madras, and helping their minis section whenever we are needed is an enjoyable way to give back to the community.
Secondly, we shall continue run ‘Tartan Touch’ sessions. Tartan Touch is an initiative set up by Scottish Rugby which encourages people of all ages and abilities to become involved in rugby, and stay active. The scheme was started last year by ‘Saints Sport Volunteer of the Year’ Charlie Davies, and the club shall continue to build upon its success this summer.
At the end of the year, our outreach programme will culminate in potential selection for a 5 week trip to South Africa, run by the Saints Volunteers. The trip focuses on providing coaching to children from deprived backgrounds in Stellenbosch. Due to the success of the Saints Volunteers programme, and the impact rugby coaching has had on the schoolchildren, the club and the Athletic Union are looking into the possibility of a rugby specific coaching programme in South Africa.
