Community Outreach Program
In 2017/18, UStARFC are committed to expanding its volunteering and outreach programme. Our time will be split in three different ways. We shall coach rugby at both the local schools and the local rugby club, ‘Madras Blues’. We shall work with ‘Families First’, spending time each week talking to and acting as role models to young children from the local community. And we shall run ‘Tartan Touch’ sessions, an initiative set up by Scottish Rugby which will encourage people from the wider university and town to play a bit of touch.
At the end of the year, this outreach programme will culminate in potential selection for a 5 week trip to Stellenbosch, South Africa, run by the Saints Volunteers. With everyone doing their bit, this will only require a few hours to be given up each semester by any one person, but we know that a lot of good can be done in just one hour.
This year UStARFC will be working with local schools all over St Andrews. Club members will spend 4 to 5 weeks providing after-school coaching to children of different age groups, culminating in a Festival of Rugby on Station Park with Madras RFC. We hope this will improve relations between the University and Town as well as provide a gateway to children participating in club rugby every Saturday.
